Lez Bomb (2018)
Running Time: 1hr 30 mins
Lez Bomb is a chaotic coming out story. Lauren (Jenna Laurenzo) and Hailey (Caitlin Mehner) travel home to visit Lauren’s parents in New Jersey for Thanksgiving dinner. Try as she might, Lauren’s goal is to drop the “Lez Bomb” on her parents and announce that Hailey is her girlfriend before any other guests arrive. She tries...and she fails. Lauren spends the rest of the movie trying to slip that important tidbit of information into any possible conversation, but it never seems to be the right moment.
In the midst of constant commotion, Lauren is relentless in her efforts to come out to her family and clarify their ridiculous assumptions about her relationship status. To make matters worse, she has to endure a series of mishaps including: a pregnancy scare, a pot-smoking uncle who accidentally sets the house on fire and is suddenly involved in a drug cartel, and a father who drops the turkey on the floor and secretly washes and scrubs it in the kitchen sink just in time for dinner to be served. Long story short, Lauren does eventually get to drop the “Lez Bomb” on her family, while another truth about Lauren’s past also gets exposed.
To be honest, the couple isn’t very believable. Just because two girls kiss on camera, it doesn’t mean they’ll automatically have on-screen chemistry or seem like the real deal. Add to that the fact that the girlfriend was way too pushy and insistent on Lauren coming out to her family even though it clearly wasn’t the best time. She definitely had jealousy issues and was a little too dramatic.

The movie was supposed to be a comedy, but it was more predictable than humorous. The funniest character was Lauren’s grandmother, Josephine (Cloris Leachman). She had some good lines, but her delivery was also amusing. She was one of the two stars in the movie, the other being Deirdre O’Connell, who played the part of Lauren’s mother. She demonstrated good acting skills, was believable, and was definitely fun to watch.
The bottom line is that this movie just wasn’t one of my favorites. If I was asked to watch it again, I’d say it was AbsolutelyOut…of the question.
